Although you and I may go through 4-6 books a month, I imagine the majority of the population would only consume 1 or 2. I believe the answer, as mentioned before by TcFir3 has a lot to do with the popularity of Audiobooks vs Movies and possibly the length of some books, such as the ones you mentioned above (by the way, good examples). I'm a fan of the Netflix business model and would love if Audible did the same. I never understand forcing consumers to purchase items they may only use once. So my question is (maybe I wasn't very clear on this the first time) if movies, which require so much time and money to produce can have Netflix, why can't we have a service for $14/month that is similar, for Audiobooks? I would love to listen to as many books as I like, even if I never own them and would happily pay for such a service. The story is already written for both, yet a movie usually requires a rewrite to bring it to life on the screen. The basic Audible plan, Audible Plus, costs 7.95 per month, while Audible Premium Plus 1 Credit will set you back 14.95 and Audible Premium Plus 2 Credits 22.95. An audiobook can take less than $20k, a handful of people and maybe around 6 months to produce. Audible Plus is 7.95 a month while Audible Premium Plus is 14.95 a month. The production for a movie can run in the millions, requires thousands of people to work on it and can take over a year to create depending on the FX and complexity of the editing. There are major differences between the two plans. There is no argument regarding what you, as a consumer gets, in return for your $10, opposed to a 2 hour movie is a bargain. And if you don't have an account those 45-50 hour long books run around $45-50. I also completely agree with you that $10 is a fair price for an audiobook, but a standard US account charges you $14 for one book. Second, I have to say I support authors and agree they should be compensated for their work. On August 24, 2020, Audible replaced both plans with Audible Premium Plus (a renaming of Gold, though with the Platinum pricing and credits grandfathered. First, I want to apologize to TonyFresco for hijacking his post. ![]()
